Foods of Africa & the Caribbean Educational Trust (FACET) is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, which has successfully been delivering tailored interdisciplinary food studies for eight years.

With a focus on areas of hot spots of deprivation, FACET started as a group of young people and families with a common interest in social action and food in Shaftesbury Hall, Austin Road SW11 5XS. Located in a very deprived part of Battersea where there was Ragged School and Shaftesbury Society, the work and legacy of the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury continues till today. We express our gratitude to all for the support we enjoyed there.

At the heart of our work is a community-based service. If this is your passion and you want to be a part of this community initiative please get in touch.

Working with our collaborative partners

Early life is shaped by availability of significant resources, including equal and adequate educational opportunities which can transform life outcomes. FACET is therefore using food context to address barriers to educational attainment of families from low income neighbourhoods. We have worked with organisations such as Connexions and YMCA Skills Academy; Kingston University through LDA Knowledge Transfer (to design a product specification). In addition, FACET lead a five-member community partnership for Wandsworth Primary Care Trust to deliver a generic project in tackling obesity.

We express our gratitude to Shaftesbury members and other local communities and schools including Balham’s Endlesham Hall and Ramsden Hall; TRC SW17 and generous use of schools such as kitchens in Daley Hall Sellincourt SW17, High View and Christ Church SW11; Alderbrook’s community room SW12.
